“Name game” – on a lighter note!

Working in an organization with multi-lingual, multi-national people can be exciting. You get an opportunity to interact and sometimes meet people from around the world.  However it can sometimes be intimidating as well, especially if people cannot pronounce your name! Your first thought on reading this must be – ' WHAT? How can it be intimidating(scary) if people cannot pronounce your name?    Don’t we have better reasons to be worried about? ' Well…well. Let’s see if you still think the same, after reading through…… I as any other homo sapient , grew up thinking my parents have given me a simple name. I mean, how difficult can it be to pronounce my name ‘ Anindita Dutta’ - pronounced as “ AA-NIN-DI-TA   DA’T-TA ”. However, as easy as it may sound, looks like it is not so.   Just the other day, There was crisis at work and I needed to join a bridge ASAP. Click…click...Click… I dial the Conference no. and join in,...

Child-Mother

It seems like an era that I have penned down any of the countless thoughts circulating in my head. I am not sure why in the middle of the night I got this sudden urge to sit and just write something in order to vent out all these feelings and relieve myself. It reminded me of Professor Dumbledore who used to take out and store a portion of his reminiscence aside so that he can analyse it later. “What is it that is disturbing me?” This question keeps nagging me again and again. I have gone about my daily chores as usual. Nothing unusual has happened in the day or in fact the past week as well, which should disturb me to the core. Then what is it? Then suddenly like a revelation the thoughts go back to around 10 days. I and my friend had gone down for shopping to a busy hub in Pune .We were on a spending mood and got anything and everything that we could lay our hands on. After around 4 hours of shopping like freaks, we finally decided to rejuvenate ourselves with sugarcane juice w...

Raigad an insight

Image
Trip to Raigad was an unforgettable experience and if I don’t pen it down it would be totally unfair at my end. I and my friends- Sandy,Urmila,Neha,Swapnil,Sahil and Keerthi to be precise, started from Pune early in the morning to cover a journey which curtail to almost 4 hours. It was a bright and sunny morning which added to our euphoria and excitement. We reached the foothills at 1300 hours and went directly to the ropeway booking counter. However we got the shock of our life. What is this? The place was totally crowded. There was a waiting time of 2 and half hours to go up the ropeway due to ‘Shivjayanti’. This is the day Shivaji was born which is celebrated with great passion in Maharashtra. What best could be done was the question in all of our minds? Finally we found solace in the hut of one of the locals who were very cordial. The full 2 and half hours was spent eating our lunch and having a good doze. Finally after this long wait our turn came and the trip up the ropeway was ...

Trip to Chavand

Image
Laziness and me are like Siamese twins so when one fine day I registered for the trek to the beautiful Chavand hills situated in Pune district at a height of 3500 ft, my friends and colleagues were quite astonished. All I could hear was “you…!!!Going on a trek? Oh! My God...Hope you complete it!!!!!” My heavy frame was another topic of hot discussion. “Hope you don’t flatten the hills into plains once you tread on it……..” It would be untruthful of me if I say I was not in dilemma. “Should I not snooze peacefully and pamper myself to a lazy Sunday rather then climb some hill, get scratched and battered?” Anyways all said and done I somehow managed to reach the boarding point from where we were to take the bus ride for 5 hours to reach the base. The bus started exactly at 12:30 a.m and after journeying through the dark night we reached the base at 5:30 am. It’s been ages since I had seen the sun rise early in the morning and the feeling was exquisite. At 7:00 a.m after a light breakfast...

My idea of a seven course meal...............

Excellent food has always been my weakness. Trying out different cuisine helps me stimulate my mind and spirit. My idea of a 7 course meal would be in the order mentioned below:- COURSE 1 - Appetizer COURSE 2 – Soup/Mock tail/Cock tail/Choice of Wines COURSE 3 - Salad COURSE 4 - Pasta/fish/sea food COURSE 5 - Main Entrée (meat, starch, vegetable) COURSE 6 - Fruit & Cheese COURSE 7 - Dessert & Coffee Appetizer is food served before the main courses of a meal. Non-Vegetarian:- Steamed Momos This appetizer from the East Indian state of Sikkim is delicious and easy on the conscience too! You can fill it with any minced meat of your choice. Momos are usually served with fiery Sikkimese tomato chutney and a clear soup called Thukpa. Vegetarian: - Vegetable Manchurian Vegetable Manchurian is another appetizer similar to Gobi Manchurian but made of assorted vegetables. Soup is food that is made by combining ingredients such as meat or vegetables in stock or hot/boiling water, ...

Uncertainty!!

My life requires some cataloging as things have been relatively hectic for the past 2 months. I had left my prior organization in search of greener pastures and the journey since then from the cocoon has been fabulous. My expertise (although 30 months cannot be the judging criteria for understanding a technology) is mainframes and suddenly I find myself in a completely different environment with just COBOL familiarity as my aide. Trainings were given to make this MAINFRAME individual get tailored to UNIX and after a week was left loose to experiment. To top it all, the application is cosmic and complex. The pressure is high; the tasks are demanding and they keep me engaged for the whole day and even invade my dreams to a great extent. However, when I look back, I realize that although I was in my comfort zone with great colleagues and friends in my previous organization but this change was necessary not only for my growth and development but also to remove the monotony in work and my l...
